{"id":38,"date":"2025-02-09T13:39:36","date_gmt":"2025-02-09T13:39:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/voiceofperuparents.org\/?page_id=38"},"modified":"2025-02-21T22:11:15","modified_gmt":"2025-02-21T22:11:15","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/voiceofperuparents.org\/index.php\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"xdj266r x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<p><strong>VOICE of Peru Parents<\/strong> is committed to giving a voice and power back to the Parents and Grandparents of Students in the local public school system.<\/p>\n<p>We are a non-profit organization, formed to combat discrimination, bullying, and duty neglect of the school administration.<\/p>\n<p>When the administration of the public school system refuses to make changes to keep students safe, or refuses to provide services to Students that they need to be successful, or discriminates against a Student or Family, this is willful duty neglect. It is also illegal, but nobody seems to be doing anything to hold them accountable.<\/p>\n<p>This is why we were formed.<br \/>\nWe are just one of MANY Families that have experienced this willful duty neglect by our local public school system.<br \/>\nMany Families have come forward with stories just like ours.<\/p>\n<p>How many times have you sat across the desk from a school principal or superintendent and were told they will do NOTHING about your Child&#8217;s situation, and there&#8217;s nothing else you can do about it?<\/p>\n<p>Change is desperately needed.<br \/>\nAnd we won&#8217;t stop until change happens.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Story that started VOICE of Peru Parents:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">My Granddaughter was assaulted by a boy at school. She was punched in the face.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Elmwood Principal, Ms. Eddy, lied to her Father\u00a0and said she reviewed the surveillance cameras,\u00a0and they were just playing tag rough.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Her Father came to me after the bruise formed on\u00a0my Granddaughter&#8217;s face, because I was the Director of Technology at PCS. I looked up the camera footage and found the assault.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I contacted the Elmwood Principal, Ms. Eddy, and handed\u00a0over the footage and explained that I had found it.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(I thought they missed it honestly somehow.)<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">She became very upset at me for finding it.\u00a0Instead of saying, &#8220;Thanks we will deal with this,&#8221; she stormed\u00a0to the superintendent, Trent McCormick, and I got fired.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">They BOTH completely GHOSTED the Father and would not\u00a0respond to ANY of his attempts to contact them.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">When the Father showed up and demanded a meeting,\u00a0McCormick admitted to receiving the email(s) and just didn&#8217;t\u00a0reply.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">We were not asking that the boy be reprimanded. We were only asking that they keep my granddaughter and the boy separated so She would be safe.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<p>The Superintendent, Trent McCormick, then states that he stands behind Ms. Eddy and PCS will\u00a0take no action on the matter.<br \/>\nAll attempts to contact the school board received absolutely no response.<br \/>\nAttending Board Meetings was met with scoffs, dismissal, and then ended with a speech from McCormick trying to discredit us and our story.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Many others are coming forward with similar stories, and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<p>here we are.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We have contacted State Police, Miami County Prosecutor, Local Authorities and Mayor, State Senators, Governor, Department of Education, Attorney General of Indiana, and our own Attorneys&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is ongoing, and we will keep the public informed about progress.<\/p>\n<p>This is not just about my Granddaughter anymore.<br \/>\n<strong>This is about EVERY Child that has experienced discrimination, bullying, assaults, and duty neglect at Peru Community Schools.<br \/>\nWe are forming this Non-Profit Organization to give a voice and power back to Parents and Grandparents in our community.<br \/>\nToo many times, a powerless Parent sat across a desk from a school administrator and were told they could do NOTHING to help.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The fist step is demanding accountability regarding this gross neglect of duty.<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">There are already laws, but nobody is enforcing them.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThis is an outline of the complaint oversight committee we are demanding the school create, for accountability:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div class=\"xdj266r x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<p><strong>Bullying, Discrimination, and Neglect Complaint Oversight Committee:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>(a) Committee Purpose \u2013<\/strong><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">1) Investigate the steps the administrator took to investigate the complaint.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">2) Investigate all evidence pertaining to the complaint, including surveillance footage (if any).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">3) Investigate the resolution or conclusion of the administrator.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">4) Check in with Parent to ensure they agree with the resolution.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">5) Discuss options and possible solutions for remedy with other Staff or Counselors, and offer ideas for remedy.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">6) Check in 30 days after the resolution to make sure the resolution is working (or needs modified).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<p>7) Write Report and make available (see section (c) below).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"x11i5rnm xat24cr x1mh8g0r x1vvkbs xtlvy1s x126k92a\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>(b) Committee Members and Structural Workings \u2013<\/strong><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">1) Committee members should be made up of at least 3 people from each building.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">2) No members can be a PCS Administrator.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">3) Members of same building do NOT investigate complaints.
